Signed up for a Wood Carving Course
I signed up for an introduction to wood carving class given at the local WoodCraft store. Okay, first of all this was a step for me in the right direction. This also means I am committed to carrying it through to completion.
I have always wanted to learn wood carving. In fact I took the time to research about it and bought a bunch of knives and chisels to do it. I added to that sharpening stones in various grit and stropping material. I also have a tool chest to carry the knives and implements around with. I even purchased some basswood to start on. I cut up a bunch of pine boards for chip carving and I set up some patterns for practice. I have wood carving screws for carving in the round. I bought a bunch of books and read and read them. I even bought a heating implement for transferring patterns from a laser print to the wood along with carbon paper and tools to do the same. Notice that the thing missing in this list is that I did not actually start carving.
That is very simple, just start doing what you are supposed to be doing. That goes with everything in life, you just start on the path and the Lord helps and leads you to the finish line. Signing up for the wood carving class is the catalyst that should propel me into actually taking up this hobby. You might find this strange, but I find this comforting - I now have a date in the sand to start, along with gaining some experience from a master carver.
