Fear of the Unknown
What is it that causes us as believers to fear the unknown? I think that we are conditioned in this society to not have alot time to devote to spreading the Gospel. Yet, it is the spread of the Gospel that gives the Church power. There is no power in the preaching or teaching, it does not happen by our own steam. Rather, it is the Lord working through us that gives us power to do things. That is considered foolishness to the world. The world looks to other things to convince it that the Christian way is correct. The gentiles seek for a mental argument that convinces them and the Jews seek to see a miricle to happen right before them. Instead what the Lord gives them is the power of the Gospel.
I started out talking about our fears of the unknown. In this society we are always looking to be admired or looked up to. In other words, Pride. This is what I have been harping on in these little tomes of mine. Our pride causes us to fear what might happen, because we don't want to be looked down on. However,it is the power of the Gospel that will allow us to be successful int eh eyes of the Lord. I am starting to feel ashamed of how I have been avoiding telling others about Jesus. I think that I need to start studying the Gospel, what it really means, and how to convey it to others. This seems to be my reasonable service to the Lord. Part of my renewing of my mind to come into line with what the Lord wants in my life.
That being said, I feel that it goes along very well with learning new things about theology. I need to get a good grounding in what I believe. I have been avoiding this type of study because I secretly did not want to get involved. However, I might be called upon to give evidence of my hope. I may need to reason with others about various aspects of the Gospel that individuals can not get in their heads because they want to seek out all they can before they are willing to make a decision. I need to be prepared to allow the Lord to use my knowledge to do this. I will also be called upon to give a simple explanation to the person who seeks. How will I convey what the Lord has done in my life unless I review the mighty work that the Lord has done? I need to keep reflecting on the Lord's mighty works.
