New Years Resolutions and Back to Work Duldrums
It's the time of year when New Years Resolutions come into play. We make promises to loose weight, spend more time with the kids, do more chores around the house, etc. but rarely do we make a resolution to spend more time with the Lord and His word. when we take the time to read the Lord's word, we find that it contains many references to the overflowing joy that spending time in the Word and spending time in prayer grant us. This is really the way that we get to know Him. The other way, of course, is to lift our eyes and look ahead to what is going on around us. I would think that a new year's resolution of spending more time in the Word of God would give us more headway with our relationship with Him. Spending time in the Word of God also causes us to want to know Him better and causes us to pray more. At least that is what I have found for myself. I know that getting back to work after the Holidays can be daunting - a flurry of activity followed by work, sleep, eat (not necessarily in that order) over and over again. I still think that we should think about what is said in the Psalms (Ps 86):
[11] Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. [12] I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever. [13] For Your lovingkindness toward me is great
