Home Bound or Land Locked?
Hope is something that drives us along. We have hope that things will turn out all right with our marriages. We have hope that our kids will become productive members of society. We have hope that we will have our jobs for a long time and then go into a leisurely retirement. We have hope that we will live our our lives to a ripe old age. But when hope of something is reduced in our eyes, we become shattered people.
[Pr 13:12] Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But desire *fulfilled is a tree of life.
This is why it is important to be content with what the Lord has given us. We know that He freely gives us "all things" (Rom 8:32; 11:36). But, we in turn must trust in Him for our provision and our livelihood. We must remain devoted to Him and be ready to give an account of the Hope that is within us.
[Eph 1:18] I pray that the eyes of your heart *may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the *saints, [19] and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.
[1 Pet 3:15] but *sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a *defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and *reverence; [16] *and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.
Our problem with hope stems not from not having hope but from our taking our eyes off of Him that gives us hope. We must continue to look to the day when He will come back again, when we will be with Him forever, for eternity.
