My Heart Magnifies the Lord
I haven't posted on this blog for a while because I have been too "busy." That seems to be the name of what we do in this life. We become too busy to do anything. It turns out that it is a shorthand way of saying, "this is not of high enough priority" for me. When there is something that we want to be involved in we will make the time, even if it requires taking time away from something that is more important at that moment. Take our relationship with the Lord for instance. Do we take the time to get into His word deeply? Or do we just give it lip service? Do we completely ignore the things of the Lord until Sunday when we realize that we have not payed any attention to Him all week? Do we pray without ceasing? Are we always thankful for what He has given us? I don't need to answer, our hearts will shame us all at our lip service.
I have seen wonderous things happen over the last couple of months. I have gotten back into teaching (although on a part time basis) an Adult Sunday School. This marks the tenth year that I have been involved with this class. I can't believe that I gave up teaching for a year to rest. I am so excited to be back again. This mornings lesson was on a prophecy from Isaiah in Is 8:1-9:7. When Isaiah was disheartened and downcast from all of the accusations from the people, the Lord let him know that the Lord was his refuge and to put his trust in Him. The Lord strengthened Isaiah to carry on the task that was very hard - proclaiming a message to a people who could care less and wouldn't listen anyway. Sometimes you need strengthening - I got a dose of that this morning when the Lord gave me the right words to say. I trusted in Him and He carried me through even though all I had was a group of notes. I could see in the faces of the people in the class that the wheels were turning and they were thinking about the importance of what was in the text. That is the way that I want it to happen, that the Lord shows me material to teach, then gives me the right words to use to put the material together, and then to watch the response knowing that without Him doing this great work I am only a sounding drum or a clanging cymbal. I thank Him for showing me who He is.
